The Geelong Speed Trials Organising Committee is currently putting arrangements in place with The City of Greater Geelong for another Geelong Speed Trials “Get Together” at the famous Ritchie Boulevarde, Eastern Beach venue.

As with last year, the event will be based on a Static Display of traditional historic and thoroughbred Geelong Speed Trials type cars and motorcycles at Eastern Beach Reserve – facing the Eastern Beach Swimming Enclosure, on Sunday November 25, from 10:00am until 4:00pm – where the Speed Trials Concours has taken place in the past.

A monument will be unveiled at 1:30 pm on the day in recognition of the late Murray Rainey, who as a then member of the Western District Car Club conceived the Geelong Speed Trials in 1956 - his vision was to bring the worlds greatest racing cars and drivers to Geelong for the benefit of the local community.

Murray’s wife Norma, daughter Joy, and Joy's partner Trevor Hulks will be travelling from the UK to Geelong for the occasion, and Joy will conduct the unveiling.

The unveiling will also recognise the role that the Western District Car Club (1956-67) and the Vintage Sports Car Club (1978 – current) have had in the conduct of the event. Consequently the Rainey’s and the current Geelong Speed Trials organization are keen to have as many people from those clubs, and in particular those involved in the conduct of the event over the years, at the unveiling to be part of this special occasion.

The day will also involve the Geelong stop-over for some 40 pre 1933 vehicles that will be participating in the Great Ocean Road 75th. Anniversary Celebrations (the road was officially opened on November 26, 1932).

Awards will be presented to the best prepared cars and motorcycles from the following periods:

o      Pre 1930.

o      1930 – 1939

o      1940 – 1959

o      1960 – 1979

The winners will then be eligible for a Concours to determine a Trophy for the Best Car and Motorcycle.

The cost of entry in the concours is $10, to assist with covering costs.

Geelong Speed Trials Memorabilia will also be for sale including Badges and Posters from 1986 to 2006.

So please come along to enjoy the day help keep the spirit of the Geelong Speed Trials alive.
